Grape Varieties

  • Alicante Bouschet

    Beautiful with character.

The Alicante Bouschet grape imparts luscious color, making it an easy blending partner. It creates earth and spice scents, with traces of leather and tobacco. You may also detect flavors of blackberries and cherries.

  • Cabernet Sauvignon

    International with leverage.

Originally from the Bordeaux region, this well-known variety hardly needs introduction, due to its popularity all over the world. By delivering very refined roasting notes, only small quantities suffice to render more complexity to the blends.

  • Tinta Caiada

    Fruity with Potential.

The special conditions of Herdade da Cardeira seem to suit just fine for the Tinta Caiada grapes, usually considered to be less classy than others. They have developed such a complex aroma that initially, specialists happen to misidentify them as Alfrocheiro grapes. These long hugely underestimated grapes provide us with a dark red colour for full-bodied wines and a bouquet of ripe fruits, herbs and spices.

  • Touriga Franca

    Care-free with style.

Touriga Franca is one of the most common varieties in Portugal, especially in the Douro Region. This care-free grape delivers noble wines with intense fruit aromas like blackberries or black cherries, sometimes with a touch of herbs.

  • Touriga Nacional

    Noble with temperament.

Touriga Nacional is one of Portugal’s premium grapes. Wines made from Touriga Nacional typically display dark color and full body, intense and harmonious aromas, and blackberry and floral scents.
