Vinho Espumante 2020. Where the Champagne meets the Alentejo.

Our first Espumante – from the Arinto and Verdelho varieties – was produced following the traditional method from the Champagne and rested on the yeast for two years to develop the desired aromas of toast and brioches. Try our Extra Brut that still offers surprising fruit and seduces with its beautiful perlage and complex aromas. To remove the yeast, we turned the bottles by hand for six weeks. Other cellars use machines, but we are Herdade da Cardeira.

Grape Varieties

  • Arinto

    Balanced with citric notes.

Arinto is a popular white grape variety found all over Portugal. It adapts well to different soils and climate zones and creates a perfect balance between its stimulating acidity and high sugar level. Arinto wines have citrusy tastes, often with floral and mineral notes.

  • Verdelho

    Well-travelled with team spirit.

Verdelho is one of the oldest varieties in the world and travelled to the Portuguese mainland from the islands of Madeira and the Azores. Wine lovers will enjoy the unique blend of its Atlantic character with the opulent body of the Alentejo province.
