Exquisite wines also include wines from Portugal. Especially wines from the Alentejo Province, a region just north of the Algarve, which is characterized by rolling hills, vast grasslands and ancient cork and olive trees.
For the Connaisseur, the Alentejo is the Bordeaux of Portugal. In fact, no other region in Portugal produces more distinctive quality wines than the Alentejo province. The foundation of its reputation for quality was laid in the late 1970s with a comprehensive system of quality control, appellation of origin, and certification procedures.
One of the contestants for excellence in the wine production in the Alentejo province is the Swiss couple Erika and Thomas Meier. They bought the winery in 2010, convinced that Alentejo’s terroir, consistent of marble, chalk, and schist, combined with dry and hot summer months will produce promising wines. Erika and Thomas were right indeed, as Herdade da Cardeira produces intense and fruity red and aromatic white wines that are appreciated by wine lovers all over the world.
Old meets new at Herdade da Cardeira, where time-honored traditions dating back to the sixth millennium B.C. are combined with today’s innovative methods and technology. Work in the vineyards and during the harvest is performed exclusively by hand, but is processed with the latest cellar technology. After meticulous selection, the grapes are placed for fermentation in either stainless steel tanks or French oak barrels.
Erika and Thomas and their team would be delighted to see you cheer with our wonderful wines.
